Key Points:

  • Descriptive Nature: The New Covenant describes the transformative work of Jesus Christ, His sacrifice, and the resulting relationship between God and believers. It focuses on what God has accomplished through Christ's death and resurrection (Hebrews 8:10-12).

  • Grace Over Law: Unlike the Old Covenant, which was based on adherence to the Law of Moses, the New Covenant emphasises grace. It describes how believers are justified by faith in Jesus, not by works of the law (Ephesians 2:8-9).

  • Internal Transformation: The New Covenant describes an internal change in believers, where God's laws are written on their hearts and minds. This internal transformation leads to a life guided by the Holy Spirit rather than external adherence to rules (Jeremiah 31:33; Romans 8:1-4).

  • Relationship with God: It describes a new, direct relationship with God through Jesus Christ, where believers are adopted as God's children and can approach Him with confidence (Galatians 4:4-7; Hebrews 4:16).
